The consultation is the first step when you are seriously considering having a vaser liposuction procedure. This must be with a fully qualified vaser Doctor who has certification in this particular technique. The consultation should be with the  Doctor who is actually going to carry out your procedure. Before you even go to the consultation, its a very good idea to make a list of the questions that you would like to ask. In a consultation it can be a bit stressful and you may forget to ask key questions along the way. Vaser Doctors are usually impressed by this approach as it shows that their Patient is considering all aspects of the operation fully and seriously.

Expect your consultation to last anything between half an hour and one hour. The length of the consultation is not the most important thing. The main objective is that you come away from the consultation feeling that all of your questions have been answered and you feel reassured that you are in the right hands.

At the consultation your Vaser Doctor will ask you what, in your own eyes, you would like to achieve. He may make notes as you speak to refer to later in the consultation. Try to give your Surgeon a clear a picture as possible so that there are no grey areas or doubts.

At some point the Doctor will examine you and make his assessment of what could be achieved with a Vaser Liposuction procedure for you.
He will make notes and probably take a medical history to see if there is any reason why you should not have surgery. In some cases he may refer you to another specialist or ask your family Doctor for more information.

Your Vaser Doctor will then discuss the pros and cons of vaser liposuction with you. He will not only explain what can be achieved but he will also go on to explain the potential risks and complications of the procedure.

Following this you should have plenty of time to ask any questions that , by this time, you feel have not been answered. Feel free to ask anything that you want. Most Doctors have heard everything, so there is no reason to hold back !

At your consultation you should be provided with a clear explanation of the cost of the operation. It is vital to understand what is included and what is not included in the fee. Sometimes there may be additional charges such as further clinic fees in the event that you have to return for further surgery or treatment. Make sure that you are clear about what you have to pay.

Most Doctors recommend a period of reflection after the consultation. This is basically time for you to think about what has been said. When you feel that you are ready to proceed you can move on to the next stage of the process.

When you are ready to proceed with your operation you will need to make the required arrangements. Usually Vaser Doctors have dedicated staff to arrange everything for you. Their job is to book everything up and make the process as smooth as possible for you.

Upon booking you are likely to be provided with a number of different pieces of information. These may include a list of things to bring to the hospital and a confirmation time for your arrival at the hospital.
You may also be required to attend for certain pre operative tests before the operation can go ahead. These could include blood tests , ECG and chest x-ray depending on what the Doctor requests in your case.

You will need to start and think about a suitable date. Remember that you are going to need around three to seven days off work, depending on the number of areas to be treated, so you will need to plan some holiday from work perhaps. If you have young children you might need some help around the house in the first couple of weeks or so. One significant advantage of Vaser Liposuction is that you are back to normal very quickly after surgery.

All Vaser Liposuction procedures in the United Kingdom are performed under local anaesthetic. In large cases of fat removal your Surgeon local anaesthetic with sedation. This will mean you are not totally asleep. A general Anaesthetic means that you will be asleep for the procedure, but this is rare for vaser.. The operation itself can take between one hour and two hours. The length of a vaser liposuction depends again on the extent of the areas to be treated.

The Doctor uses a special instrument called a cannula, which looks like a long thin metal rod. This fine cannula actually uses ultrasound technology to liquify the fatty substance in the  fat cells into liquid and it is this cannula that removes the unwanted fat. Modern vaser  liposuction equipment gives the Doctor  greater control of the amount of fat that is removed and the area in which it is taken from.

Before the area is treated the Doctor will inject local anaesthetic to help numb the area. He also introduces a special saline solution which helps breakdown the fat and assists with the removal of the excess fat itself You may feel some pulling and tugging as the cannula is working to remove the fat. However Vaser lipsouction is considered much less uncomfortable than traditional liposuction because the fat is not removed in such a traumatic way as conventional liposuction.

When the Doctor is happy with the amount of fat that is removed and the new shape the operation is over.

It might be a good idea to take some loose fitting clothes with you which you can wear on the way home. As you are likely to have a garment to wear just after surgery it’s not a good idea to arrive wearing anything too tight

Following a fat removal procedure you should expect some discomfort. Pain relief will be available and your Nursing team together with your Plastic Surgeon will do everything to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Depending on the advice of your Plastic Surgeon, you may be able to leave some hours after the operation or in some cases you may be advised to stay in hospital overnight. This is especially true when large areas have been treated.

Upon discharge from the clinic you will given clear post operative instructions which you should follow carefully. If the Vaser Doctor has asked you to take medication you may be given a prescription to buy the required drugs. Typically you may be put on a course of antibiotics and painkillers.

Usually after Vaser liposuction procedures you are requested to wear special tight-fitting garments for a period of time underneath your clothes. This helps with the bruising and swelling. In almost all procedures you should expect a degree of bruising and swelling after the operation. This is normally worse in the first couple of weeks, and it can take some weeks to settle. However, remember that one significant advantage of vaser liposuction is that it is much gentler to surrounding tissues and the recovery time is much quicker.

You maybe advised to take some time off work, again this could be as little as a few days with Vaser. The idea with Vaser Liposuction is that you are back to your normal routine much more quickly, fast recovery is at the heart of this treatment. After a short recovery period your Vaser Doctor may encourage you to start a little exercise.
It can take several months for the results to show in any liposuction procedure including vaser.
