Keogh cosmetic surgery review calls for change

The  eagerly awaited Bruce Keogh report into the cosmetic surgery industry is out today.

Sir Bruce Keogh was commissoned to head up a review of the cosmetic surgery industry after the recent P.I.P scandal which left thousands of British women concerned over the safety of breast implants.

The report suggests that dermal fillers should be out on prescription. Dermal fillers are used to remove facial lines and wrinkles and help fill in depressions of the skin. At the moment anyone can administer these treatments and the Keogh report says that this needs to change. The public needs to be protected it says .

It is expected that tigher controls over the qualifications and training of those who administer dermal fillers will come into force.

The Bruce Keogh report aso recommends an insurance scheme for those who have suffered at the hands of Plastic Surgeons.

Advertising of cosmetic surgery has also come under scrutiny. Disocunt deals are in question and there are calls for such offers to be banned. The Bruce keogh report also balmes TV programmes which appear to trivialise cosmetic surgery , such as The Only way is Essex. Clinics will probably need to reconsider their marketing programmes if the Government decide to take a firmer control over the advertising of cosmetic surgery.

Sir Bruce Keogh will now present his report to the government and it will make an announcement during the summer in terms of regulation going forward.

Most Plastic Surgeons and clinics welcome tighter regulatio of the cosmetic surgery industry in order that coeboy operators are removed from the industry and the pblics perception and confidence is enhanced as a result
