Face Lift & Neck Lift Surgery Before & After Pictures*
INTRODUCTION TO FACELIFT SURGERY
The classic face lift is still in huge demand. Is there any other cosmetic surgery procedure that demonstrates more powerfully just what cosmetic surgery can achieve ?.
The decision to proceed with a face lift is not one normally taken lightly. These days most women ( and men) have already been accustomed to anti-wrinkle injections which until now have done their job in holding back the years. However when it comes to removing saggy skin on the neck and face, only a classic face lift can roll back the years to the extent that they can. Yes, there are some significant advancements in non surgical procedures that can give lift to sagging areas, however none would claim to do so at the level that a facelift can.
Now it has to be said that there have been major advancements in facial cosmetic surgery over the years. The trend now is for so-called ” mini” lifts and the fifty somethings are now availing themselves of smaller face lift techniques rather than waiting until they get older. Many journalists talk of people having facial lifting to keep in the top jobs as the labour market gets tougher, this may be true but the advent of new techniques has drawn in a whole new audience when it come to rolling back the years on the face.
Now you can consider procedures such as thread lifting which uses fine threads to pull up sagging skin through tiny incisions , rather than larger incisions of the classic lift. Or what about the so-called ” lunchtime facelift or ” one stitch facelift which again is aimed at the younger end of the facelift market. Or perhaps aimed at those who don’t want the full recovery period that a classic facelift inevitably demands.
We cannot mention face lifting without a word about laser skin resurfacing. Laser surgery is still very popular although arguably the mini lifting procedures are starting to leave some laser procedures a little behind perhaps. In particular there are procedures such as the Silhouette Soft lift and PDO thread lifts that increasing in popularity.
The great news for Patients is that they plenty of choices. Now you can really get the procedure that you want. The key of course is sitting down with your Plastic Surgeon and discussing thee right option for you. Face lifting is often combined with other facial procedures at the same time such as eye bag removal or upper eyelid surgery. In some cases a brow lift could be performed to lift the sagging brow at the same time.
A facelift requires great surgical skill and artistry from a Plastic Surgeon. A facelift is a big step to take. After all you are going to trust someone with your face. take your time to consider all of the facts with your Plastic Surgeon. Remember that face lifts carry potential risks and complications just like any other cosmetic surgery operation and you will want to be well-informed about each one of them.
At the end of the day a good face lift can literally take years off you and give you a new-found confidence which you can take forward in the years to come.
What happens at the Consultation
The consultation is the first step when you are seriously considering having a face lifting procedure. This must be with a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon. The consultation should be with the Surgeon who is actually going to carry out your procedure. Before you even go to the consultation, it’s a very good idea to make a list of the questions that you would like to ask. In a consultation it can be a bit stressful and you may forget to ask key questions along the way. Plastic Surgeons are usually impressed by this approach as it shows that their Patient is considering all aspects of the operation fully and seriously.
Expect your consultation to last anything between half an hour and one hour. The length of the consultation is not the most important thing. The main objective is that you come away from the consultation feeling that all of your questions have been answered and you feel reassured that you are in the right hands. Some Plastic Surgeons charge a fee for consultation, others do not. In many cases the fee for the consultation is deducted when the Patient proceeds with surgery.
At the consultation your Plastic Surgeon will ask you what , in your own eyes, you would like to achieve. He may make notes as you speak to refer to later in the consultation. Try to give your Surgeon a clear a picture as possible so that there are no grey areas or doubts.
At some point the Plastic Surgeon will examine your face and make his assessment of what could be achieved with a face lifting procedure for you. Remember that with face lifting there may be more than one option for you to consider, depending on the results that you are looking for and your attitude to the recovery period afterwards.
Your Plastic Surgeon will make notes and probably take a medical history to see if there is any reason why you should not have face lift surgery. In some cases he may refer you to another specialist or ask your family Doctor for more information. Your Plastic Surgeon will then discuss the pros and cons of face lifting with you. He will not only explain what can be achieved but he will also go on to explain the potential risks and complications of the procedure. Following this you should have plenty of time to ask any questions that, by this time, you feel have not been answered. Feel free to ask anything that you want. Most Plastic Surgeons have heard everything, so there is no reason to hold back !
At your consultation you should be provided with a clear explanation of the cost of the operation. It is vital to understand what is included and what is not included in the fee. Sometimes there may be additional charges such as further hospital fees in the event that you have to return for further surgery or treatment. Make sure that you are clear about what you have to pay.
Most Plastic Surgeons recommend a period of reflection after the consultation. This is basically time for you to think about what has been said. When you feel that you are ready to proceed you can move on to the next stage of the process.
The Procedure for Facelift Surgery
When you are ready to proceed with your operation you will need to make the required arrangements. Usually Plastic Surgeons have dedicated staff to arrange everything for you. Their job is to book everything up and make the process as smooth as possible for you.
Upon booking you are likely to be provided with a number of different pieces of information. These may include a list of things to bring to the hospital and a confirmation time for your arrival at the hospital.
You may also be required to attend for certain pre operative tests before the operation can go ahead. These could include blood tests , ECG and chest x-ray depending on what the Surgeons requests in your case.
You will need to start and think about a suitable date. Remember that you are going to need around fourteen days off work, depending on the extent of the face lift and the type of face lift that you have discussed with your Plastic Surgeon . If you have young children you might need some help around the house in the first couple of weeks or so as you recover.
Upon admission to the hospital you may be seen by the Anesthetist prior to the surgery. Usually your operation will be one or a number of other cosmetic surgery procedures that your Plastic Surgeon will perform on that day. So remember that your admission time might not be the time that you have the operation.
For a classic face lift procedure you will normally have a general anesthetic. A general Anesthetic means that you will be asleep for the procedure. The operation itself can take between two to four hours depending on the amount of surgery required and if you need additional procedures as part of the overall procedure such as a blepharoplasty to remove eye bags or hooded eyelids.
Some mini lifting procedures such as thread lifting or one stitch face lifting is usually performed under a local anesthetic, sometimes with a little sedation.
The Surgeon uses an incision behind the ear and in the hairline as part of a classic facelift. The excess skin is removed and muscles are tightened in the neck and lower face areas. When the Plastic Surgeon is happy that enough skin has been removed and the muscles have been tightened to roll back the years, the operation is complete and the wounds are closed and a head bandage is usually applied, depending on the Plastic Surgeons requirements.
Following a classic face lift procedure you should expect some discomfort. Pain relief will be available and your Nursing team together with your Plastic Surgeon will do everything to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Depending on the advice of your Plastic Surgeon, you may be asked to remain in hospital for two nights. In cases where only a mini face lift has been required you may be able to go home after one night, or in some cases later in the same day after the operation.
Upon discharge from the hospital you will given clear post operative instructions which you should follow carefully. If the Plastic Surgeon has asked you to take medication you may be given a prescription to buy the required drugs. Typically you may be put on a course of antibiotics and painkillers.
After care with Moorgate Aesthetics
In all face lift procedures, mini or otherwise, you should expect a degree of bruising and swelling after the operation. This is normally worse in the first couple of weeks, and it can take some weeks to settle.
You will advised to take some time off work, again the amount of time will depend on the extent of the surgery performed and the type of face lift that you have had. Usually you will be asked to arrange two weeks off work following a classic face lift procedure.Minor lifting procedures can be much less, in some cases merely a day or two.
It can take several months for the complete result to appear in a classic face lift Remember that after the operation you are going to have causes the tissues to swell and it can take some months for everything to settle completely.
