Cosmetic surgery for the body
It’s hard to know where to start when it comes to cosmetic surgery of the body. There now seems to be so much that Plastic Surgeons can do to Transform our bodies that its hard to keep pace with ever new procedures and technique.
Whilst its true to say that the British Cosmetic surgery market is still dominated by Breast surgery, breast augmentation in particular, there are thousands of body procedures carried out in this country every year.
Of these procedures one of the most popular that spring to mind is Liposuction. There is still a huge demand for fat removal in this country. With obesity on a dramatic and worrying rise, it’s no surprise that this procedure remains so popular.
Now the new buzz word is laser fat removal with much being talked about at the moment regarding Vaser Liposuction. This procedure is being used by Plastic Surgeons as a more gentle way of removing fat and because there is more precision surgical techniques the cosmetic results are superior on the whole to conventional liposuction. Whats more, its kinder to tissues so bruising and swelling is usually less than ordinary liposuction.
Costs of liposuction have fallen over the past few years and especially with the introduction of techniques like vaser. Depending on the areas that you want to have treated, expect to pay from £ 2000 to £ 6000.
We can’t mention liposuction without talking about tummy tucks in the same breath. A tummy tuck, or an Abdominoplasty to your Plastic surgeon is a hugely popular procedure. It can be performed together with some liposuction, on the hips for example, to complete the transformation of the abdomen. A big favourite with women who have had multiple pregnancies, or those who have lost a considerable amount of weight, it remains one of the most common cosmetic surgery operations of today. Typical prices for a tummy tuck range from £ 4500 to £ 7000
Over recent years we have seen much more interest in other skin removing procedures such as arm and thigh lifts. These are very similar to a tummy tuck in that the procedure is designed to remove redundant skin from these areas. Excess skin on the arms are often given the unfortunate tag of ” bingo wings”
Thigh lifts are usually performed where there has been considerable weight loss on the thighs leaving unsightly skin on the inner thigh areas.
We are convinced Liposuction and tummy tuck lead the way, but the following operations are being reported in Plastic Surgeons offices as on the rise.
- Buttock lifts, rather like a tummy tuck for the bottom !
- Calf implants. If you have a very skinny calf, then you could consider a specially shaped silicone implant to give shape and definition to the calf area.
Other men and women only procedures include labia reduction for women who want a more pleasing look to the vagina, usually where the labia protrude.
Vaginal tightening can often be performed at the same time as a Labia reduction where required.
Men are not forgotten as we male chest reduction ( man boobs ) gets ever more popular.
Now, this is quite a list and its by no means exhaustive. Many Plastic Surgeons will be comfortable performing all of the operations on the list. However with such a wide variety of operations you need to reassure yourself that your Plastic Surgeon has good demonstrable experience in the operation that you are seeking. For example, if you are looking to have a calf implant then this is not a particularly popular operation and not all Plastic Surgeons will be comfortable taking on this procedure.
As we keep saying, everything starts with a consultation. Take your time and do your homework well. Spend some time with your Plastic Surgeon and make sure that you have all of the facts before making up your mind.
